DARRELL RALPH SMITH

Darrell was born January 29, 1938, to Ralph C. Smith and Mildred A. Garner Smith in Ontario, Oregon. He began school at Ontario, going from first grade to his sophomore year when his parents moved to Fruitland, ID where he graduated in 1956.

He was active in athletics, receiving a football scholarship to the College of Idaho. He joined the National Guard at the age of 17. After two years at college he enlisted in the Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA in the First Marine Division. He later served in Lisbon, Portugal, stationed at the American Embassy as a Marine guard and traveled throughout the world on assignments. After Portugal, he was stationed 29 Palms, CA. He served in the Marine Reserve Charlie Co 4th Tank Battalion in Boise, ID in 1976. He left the Marines as a staff sergeant with 12 years service in the national guard and Marines.

While home on leave he met Joan Robison Inglis; they were married July 17, 1962. Darrell worked for American Linen Supply, working his way up to service manager. He attended Boise State College receiving a BS degree in education and went to work for Boise Schools as a teacher and coach. He received his Masters of Education from the University of Idaho. Over the years he held several positions in schools throughout the valley—teacher, vice principal, head track/football coach and athletic director. He taught at West, South, East and Fairmont junior highs, a total of 32 years in education.

After retiring, he and Joan traveled the world and spent winters in Tucson and summers in Boise for 16 years. At his time of death, he was living in Denton, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Tobe. He is survived by his wife Joan, his son Kord and wife Jenifer of Denton and his son Jack and wife Viv of Wenatchee, WA. Granddaughters Alexis Smith of Little Rock, AR, Kathryn Smith of Denton, Megan Andersen, and Kallen. Sister Claudette Wallace of Boise and brother Greg Smith of Boise
