Obituary

Darren Dwayne Smith Jr. passed away on October 17, 2026, in Denton, Texas. He was born on August 15, 1977, in Dallas, Texas.

Darren was a devoted husband, loving father, soon-to-be grandfather, and a man whose humor, generosity, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Darren never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation, a quick wit, and just the right amount of sarcasm to keep everyone on their toes. Whether sharing a funny story or simply enjoying time with the people he loved, Darren had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.

In February 1996, Darren met the love of his life, Mandy. Their friendship quickly grew into something special, and they began dating that June. They married on August 15, 1998, Darren's 21st birthday. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, unforgettable memories, and a family that meant everything to him.

Darren was a proud father to Camryn and Joshua, and in 2014, his family grew when Micah became his bonus daughter. He treasured his children and welcomed the addition of his sons-in-law, Ely and Ben, into the family.

One of Darren's greatest joys in recent months was the anticipation of becoming a grandfather for the first time. Although he would not have the opportunity to hold his grandson in his arms, his love for him had already begun. The excitement of this new chapter brought him so much happiness, and his family will forever cherish the love he already had for his grandson.

Darren found joy in the simple things: a good book, great music, a relaxing cigar, and meaningful conversations with the people around him. He was naturally curious and loved sharing his thoughts, stories, and discoveries with others.

Above all, Darren had a generous heart. He was always willing to help someone in need, offer encouragement, or share whatever he could. His humor could fill a room, but it was his love for others that made the greatest impact.

While his family and friends will miss him beyond measure, they find comfort in knowing that Darren's earthly struggles are over and that he is now completely healed in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Darren leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless stories, and a legacy of love that will continue through his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mandy; his son, Joshua; his daughters, Camryn and her husband, Ely, and Micah and her husband, Ben; his parents, Don and Vickie Taylor; his brother, Shane and his wife, Rebecca; his sisters, Angela and Ashley; and his brother-in-law, Isaac and his wife, Melissa. He also leaves behind his eagerly anticipated first grandson and his beloved nieces and nephews, Malachi, Micah, Carson, Bailey, Aliyah, Elijah, and Sterling, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was deeply loved, he will be forever missed, and his story will continue to be told by those who loved him most.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 23rd at 3pm at Mission Church.
