David Ernest "Preacher" Brown

David Ernest " Preacher" Brown, 87, of Denton, TX, passed away on August 7, 2026

Most referred to him as Ernie or Preacher.

He was born on October 31, 1938, to Ruth Ponder in Denton, Tx. He was adopted by his Grandparents Rev. Rupert and Hannah Ford.

David lived his entire life in Denton, Tx. He graduated Denton High School in 1956. As a young man, David and his grandfather built homes together locally. He then went on to live out one of his dreams to drive a bus for Continental Trailways, which he did for 15 years. After retiring from Trailways, he went on to build and invest locally in real estate, where he spent the rest of his life maintaining his properties and working with his family, which he enjoyed so much.

David was a devoted Christian, and a lifelong member of Taylor Park Church of the Nazarene now known as Willowwood church of the Nazarene.  He served in many positions in the church.  He was active in the West Texas District Nazarene Church Board. He also served on the board of Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. 

David is survived by his wife of 67 years Janelle Brown, their daughter Debbie "brown" Hitt and her husband Harrold. 2 grandchildren Jennifer Evans, and Blake Small and his wife Ashley. 6 great-grand children, Ethan, Evan, and Andy Evans, and Brayden, Nash ,and Molly Small. 

He was preceded in death by their 2 infant daughters Karen Lee and Lisa Ann.

He will be remembered for his faith, his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, his selflessness and the many lessons and memories he left behind.
