Obituary

David "Gene" Gamble, 90, of Denton, Texas passed away on January 9, 2024, in Denton, Texas. He was born in Lake Dallas, Texas to Elijah and Myrtle Gamble. To hear Gene tell the story, he was born in God's Country (Lake Dallas).  He was the youngest of seven children.

He graduated Denton High School and attended North Texas University with the goal of teaching.  He was a master wood crafter and excelled in shop.  He married Norma Lynn Graham on January 25, 1958.  They were married 65 years.

As a teenager, Gene worked at Hundley Boat company.  He worked there for many years in various jobs.  One of those duties was travelling the United States to deliver boats.  Gene could tell some stories about his adventures.

Gene joined the army and went to boot camp.  He had some tales to tell there too.  He was later honorably discharged due to cartilage in his knee not repairable to their standards.

If there was a hard way to do something, a Gamble could probably tell you how to do it.  Gene built his insurance agency selling Life and Health insurance policies one at a time.  He successfully built his clientele to open his own business, Gene Gamble Insurance Agency.  Upon retiring from teaching, Norma Lynn joined him in his agency to add other lines of insurance to the business.  Together, they ran the insurance agency for 40 years.

Gene was always looking for ways to make money.  He and Norma Lynn started buying property to rent or sell.  Not to give any income away, he obtained his real estate license.  Another way to make money was in cattle.  Norma Lynn and he researched breeds of cattle and looked for a herd to purchase.  They settled on Pinzgauer, an Austria breed which has beautiful and lean cattle with dark chestnut base color with white markings.  When they were able to butcher a steer, it was a very good year for the family.  Together, they were true partners in marriage as well as in business and life.

Gene was community minded.  He was a member of Kiwanis where he chaired the Children's clinic.  He was President of the Denton Jaycee's and Chair of the Zoning Committee for Denton.  He brought back many Christmas trees from Colorado to Denton's Town Square.  He looked for ways to better the City of Denton for its residents and youth.

When Chester came into their lives, Gene was a very proud and active Dad.  He coached youth baseball and football.  Once again, Gene saw a need, soccer style kicking in football.  In his eyes, Chester could do anything, so they researched the skill and started practicing.  Chester made the team as kicker in high school.  If his love for his son wasn't clear enough, when his grandson, Matthew came along it became all the more evident.  He proudly carried pictures of Matthew in his shirt pocket to share at any given chance.

He is survived by his son, Chester Gamble, and his wife, Sharon of Ft. Worth, Texas, his grandson, Mathew Graham Gamble, and his wife, Sabrina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Gamble, his mother and father, sisters Mary Malone, Lillie Bulen, Ethel Farmer, brothers, Charles Gamble, Sam Gamble and James Gamble.
