April 3, 1945 – September 3, 2024
David Haskell Hunt, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in Denton, Texas. He was born on April 3, 1945, in Wakefield, Rhode Island, where his father was temporarily stationed during World War II. He was the son of Loyd Haskell and Maxine Bell (Hester) Hunt.
The Hunt family returned to their roots near Durant, Oklahoma, where David Hunt graduated from Cobb High School in May 1963. He began attending Southeastern State University in Durant and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965. On May 22, 1965, David married Patsy Louise Norman at the Cobb Baptist Church. The couple's first child, Cynthia Lynn Hunt, was born in April 1966, weeks before David headed for service in Vietnam on board the heavy cruiser St. Paul.
Following his military service, David returned to college in 1967 in Durant, completing his accounting degree. During the next four decades, David worked for a variety of petroleum companies, specializing in international tax. His career path saw the family living at various times in Durant, Bartlesville, Tulsa, Chicago, Illinois, and the Houston, Texas area. David and Patsy's second child, David Loyd Hunt, was born on August 4, 1969, in Durant.
David and Patsy Hunt were active in the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, in Cypress, Texas, where they lived for more than ten years. David retired from full-time accounting work in April 2005. He and Patsy moved into a new home in the Robson Ranch retirement community near Denton, Texas, in December 2005. During the next nineteen years, they enjoyed family gatherings, traveling to Navy reunions, taking cruises with their family, and being involved in the lives of their four grandchildren.
At the time of his passing, David was living with Patsy in Denton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Roy.
David is survived by his wife Patsy of Denton; his brother Wilson, his wife Jan and their family in Oklahoma; his son David and his wife Lisa of Cypress, Texas; his daughter Cindy and her husband Steve of Lantana, Texas; four grandchildren (Austin, Kristen, Emily, and Jacob); and two great granddaughters, Aria and Avalynn.
