David Earl Kinney, 74 of Aubrey passed away Saturday morning, October 3, 2020 at Medical City Denton. He was born July 22, 1946 in Evansville, Indiana to Charles Robert and Jaqueline Pickering Kinney. David had a Bachelors of Science degree from Mississippi State University and was a retired Software Engineer. He was a member of Mensa from his early college days.
He was a member of Denton Bible Church, the Denton Bible Sweat Team, and an active member of the Aubrey Masonic Lodge and a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. David loved playing the organ, and so whenever he got a chance to use his gift to serve others, he would volunteer to go the Pilot Point Nursing Homes and play music for the elderly twice a month on Sunday afternoons so they could sing and find comfort in Gospel music.
David loved to fly and had been flying since he got his private pilot's license at 16. David was never too far away from a plane and he never saw one he was not interested in. He earned his flight instructor's and MEI license at 21 and never looked back. He taught flight instruction at Denton Aviation as well as private students that asked him.
He was active in Bible study at Denton Bible Church and enjoyed the Senior Sunday School Class there with Mike Spencer as the leader. He found friends there and enjoyed the lessons and fellowships he found there.
David married Beverly Jean Coffey on July 30, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Simi Valley, CA, until 1994 when they returned to Aubrey. Both were very active in church and different ministries. David was employed by Durham Transportation at the Aubrey ISD, where he enjoyed driving the bus and loving on the children on his bus route.
David is survived by his wife Jean, a brother Wayne Kinney, three daughters Jennifer Cagle of Richardson, TX, Jacqueline Lynch of Austin, TX, and Vivian Mueller of Arlington, TX. He also had son Matt Lowry of Aubrey, TX, and Jennifer Richmond of Denton, TX. David was also blessed to have four grandchildren Ally Cagle of Richardson, TX, Helena Lowry of Aubrey, TX, and Brielle and Austin Richmond of Denton, TX.
