Delaney M. Gregory

Delaney M. Gregory passed to her peaceful and joyful place in heaven on August 29, 2026, with the same love, strength, and faith that defined her life. A devoted mother, grandmother, wife, sister, friend, educator, and Christian, Delaney spent her life nurturing and shaping lives at home and in the classroom.

Rose Delaney Mulkey was born on November 11, 1948, in Plainview, TX, the first child of Hoyt Avon Mulkey and Elizabeth Rose Johnson Mulkey. As a music minister, her father laid a foundation of faith, singing, and lots of love. Early in her childhood, she developed a passion for learning that endured throughout her life. Delaney was the doting big sister to four younger brothers.

Delaney obtained her bachelor’s degree in education at TWU. She continued her education at Baylor University, earning a master’s degree in counseling and social work. Following her family’s move to Denton, TX in 1989, she taught for Denton ISD’s HeadStart program until her retirement, fulfilling her lifelong calling to education.

In 1970, Delaney joined First United Methodist Church during her marriage to Robert Blocker. The church was a cornerstone throughout her life; she served on numerous committees, as a UMYF Counselor, in the New Horizons Sunday School class, and as a VBS volunteer.

Delaney married Mike Gregory on April 28, 2001, and Mike quickly introduced her to new adventures and travel. Together, they explored parks and cities throughout the US, Europe and Australia. They especially enjoyed supporting the Texas Longhorns and made frequent trips to Austin to attend games. They shared a long and loving marriage, and she supported him through his courageous battles with Leukemia and Parkinson's.

In her community, Delaney was active with the Denton Benefit League, serving on grant committees, the Denton Public School Foundation, Denton ISD, and all her children’s many academic and extracurricular activities. She loved her wonderful groups of friends: the Magnolias, the Sunflowers, the Crafty Ladies and her many friends throughout Denton Village.

Delaney is survived by her children, Brooke Daly of Denton, Ben Blocker (Kate) of Austin, and her grandchildren Liam and Aidan Daly, Jackson Daly-Gust and Arden and Liza Blocker. Delaney was also fortunate to share her love with Mike’s children: Courtney Gregory Denby (Doug) of Dallas, David Mitchell Gregory (Kellye) of Houston, and grandchildren Marcella, Meredith, and George Denby and Macy and Lillian Gregory.

In addition, she is survived by brothers Don Mulkey (Kris), Robert Mulkey (Michelle), and sister-in-law Kathy Mulkey along with many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. Delaney was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyt and Rose Mulkey, brothers Danny and Kevin Mulkey, and her husband, Mike Gregory.

A service celebrating her life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Denton on September 18, 2026, at 1:00pm.
