Delpha Smithwick Garcia 82, of Denton, (formerly of Corpus Christi) passed away Friday evening at the Medical City Denton Hospital.  She was born August 4, 1935 in San Diego, Texas to Charles and Elodia Lichtenberger Smithwick.

She received her Bachelors of Arts at the University of Texas at El Paso and her Master of Education from the University of North Texas. Delpha was an educator having taught at Parkland High School, El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso before retiring from teaching in 1984.  She was a member of several organizations, ACTS, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and American Contract Bridge League.

She married Baldomero Garcia on February 12, 1956.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who will truly be missed.

Delpha is survived by her husband, Baldomero Garcia of Denton, sons, David (Tracy) Garcia, Albert (Lisa) Garcia, sister, Sally (Henry) Messer, brothers, Charles (Cota) Smithwick, Ruben (Albesa) Smithwick, six grandchildren, Anthony, Jennifer, Jessica, Austin, Augustus, John and three great grandchildren, Braxton Longoria, Harper Cantrell and Brooklyn Cantrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and son, Richard R. Garcia and brother, Roy (Raquel) Smithwick.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 P.M. for visitation, a Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. officiated by Deacon Barry Sweeden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 6th, 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Tim Thompson officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
