Denver Gray McCarty, age 72, of Monroe, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Corinth, Texas. He was born on August 24, 1946 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland to Dr. F.E. McCarty and Ave M. (Gray) McCarty.
Denver's life of service began when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After leaving the U.S. Marine Corps., he worked as a Deputy with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Department in Monroe, Louisiana while earning his B.A. at Northeast Louisiana University.
After graduating with his B.A., Denver moved to Dallas, Texas where he served as a police officer with the Dallas Police Department. Years later he attended Southern Methodist University and obtained his M.B.A. and J.D. Denver proudly served the legal community for 36 years and began his journey as an assistant district attorney with the Dallas District Attorney's office. He then acted as an assistant U.S. Attorney with the Dallas U.S. Attorney's office. Years later, Denver left his first private practice to serve as an assistant district attorney with the Denton District Attorney's office before retiring from private practice in 2016.
Denver married Judy A. (Killion) McCarty and is survived by his wife, Judy, of Pryor, Oklahoma; his daughter Ashley McCarty of Corinth, Texas; his son, Denver Jr., daughter-in-law, Kelly, and two granddaughters, Brenna and Bella McCarty of Boerne, Texas as well as a sister, Mary Sue McCarty of Mesquite, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. F.E. McCarty, his mother, Ava M. McCarty, and his brother, George McCarty.
The family will be receiving friends who wish to celebrate Denver's life on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the DeBerry Funeral Directors. His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Pryor, Oklahoma at the Stephen Keys Funeral Home.
