Dolores Ann Simpson passed away on April 2,2026. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend she leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all of those who knew her.
For Dolores, it all starts with family and friends. Descending from a mother who had 15 siblings and a father who had 7, she has 22 Aunts and Uncles. Dolores also has 1 sister, 3 brothers, 3 children, and too many cousins/nieces/nephews to count, leaving behind a large family that spans several continents. With her genuine warmth and caring, she has made countless friends during the ten moves that she has made spanning 2 provinces and 5 states. Staying in touch with family and friends was her full-time passion and she has made it a point to attend as many gatherings as she could over the years and keep up with all of the changes in the families. No matter the size of the gathering, you could be assured that she would spend time with you. Like her mother, her home was always open. As the kids got older and started to leave the house, she took in hockey billets and treated them like her own children. In the last years of her life, "Grandma D" was blessed with the addition of Johnny William Simpson and Calihan Dolores Simpson.
Her secondary passion centered around sports. While ringette was her game growing up, she took up pickleball in her last few years and this reignited her competitive spirits. She never let her battle with cancer stop her from playing and she never made excuses if the game did not go her way. Dolores played as much as she could and even won a local tournament only a few weeks ago. An avid hockey fan, she hardly missed a Habs game. Though she was not able to meet her dream of visiting every NHL arena, this is a journey that the rest of the family will continue in her honour.
Card playing was the perfect mix of her family and competitiveness. If there were more than 4 people in a place at one time, in the true Roy family nature, it seems a card game would break out. Always going into the wee hours of the morning, the longer they went, the more animated they became. If you made a mistake, you would never live it down. Dolores was usually the first to sit down and the last to leave.
A graduate of McGill, Dolores moved to Ontario and taught in Goderich and Stratford before "retiring" when she moved to the United States. Dolores was organized, dedicated and patient in the classroom. She was a caring teacher and coach that has a special place in her students' memories.
Proceeded in death by her parents, Garnet and Ann Alexander (née Roy), Dolores leaves behind Steve, her husband and best friend of nearly 40 years, her sons Reid (Jamie), Cole (Claire) and Burke. She also leaves behind her sister Cara (Craig), and brothers Len (Jill), Garn (Mary) and Vance (Angie) and all of their children.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 9 in Montreal at the Red Barn (20609 Lakeshore Rd, Baie D'urfe, Quebec). Doors will open at 2:30 and a formal program will start at 3:30. You are encouraged to wear a fun Christmas outfit to celebrate her favorite time of year. Streaming will be provided for those not able to attend.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you make a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Research in her name to:
