Dominic Anthony DeLeonardis, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in his home of three years in Denton, Texas. His wife of nearly 69 years, Aileen (Weber) DeLeonardis, his daughters, Sharon (Dave) Preziose and Shirley (Tom) Spaziani, grandchildren, Nicole (Keith) Poole, Angela (Matt) Clouse, Jay (Melissa) DeLeonardis, Kenny (Laurie) DeLeonardis, Tricia (Nate) Miller, Thomas Spaziani, Jr., Tia (Dennis) Maciborski, Jennifer (Peter) Jauregui and 14 great-grandchildren, survive him. Sisters Mary Cocco & Lena Raymond and brother Achilles (Lois) DeLeonardis of Lorain Ohio, also survive him. He is preceded in death by his two sons, James Arthur DeLeonardis and Kenneth Allen DeLeonardis, his sisters and brothers- in-law, Ida (Bud) Walters, Clara (Louis) Dobos, Olga (Wayne) Hogrefe, Anothony Cocco, Wayne Raymond, nephew Kevin DeLeonardis and niece-in-law, Susan Kelly Hogrefe.
Dominic was born in Lorain Ohio to Italian immigrant parents, Dominic and Christina (Delgallo) DeLeonardis. He was a decorated WWII Veteran of the 2nd Infantry Division-Indian Heads. He was a bazooka carrier who served in the European Theater and Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked in the shipyards, was a welder and a master plumber, which became his life long career. Dominic and Aileen moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida with their four children in 1959. Dominic started his own plumbing business in Oakland Park, Florida and was an active businessman in the area, involved in the early development of Oakland Park and surrounding cities, not retiring until age 84. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post 222, 32nd degree Mason, Veteran of Foreign Wars and Elks Club.
Dominic's favorite hobby was fishing, so, it was his wish to have his ashes spread at sea. A private memorial Mass will be held in his honor.
