Don Gilbert Billings, also known as "Donnie" met his Lord and Savior at 1:31p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the age of 71. Don, originally from San Antonio, TX, was born to Ruble and Mary Billings on January 14, 1942. He graduated from San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School May 25, 1960. He went on to join the U.S. Navy on July 7, 1960 and spent recruit training in San Diego, California. He was then assigned to the USS YR-51 National Training Center in Glakes, Illinois until he was assigned to the ship USS CROMWELL in 1961. Then in 1962 he was assigned to the USS YOSEMITE until he received his honorable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States of America on the 29th day of October 1963.
Don married his beloved wife, Cristina Munguia Billings on March 1, 1964. They began their lives together in Dallas, TX and were happily married for 48 years. Don was a machinist by trade and was employed by the following companies: Cox Manufacturing of San Antonio, TX, Emmtex of Carrollton, TX, Forney Engineering of Dallas, TX, Delta Brands of Dallas, TX, Victor Equipment of Denton, TX, Denco of Lewisville, TX, United States Postal Service of Dallas, TX, and TrimTabs Investment Research, Inc. of Santa Rosa, CA.
Don is survived by his children, Wilma A. Hillery of Lewisville, TX, Adele E. Davis and husband Craig of Sanger, TX, Abraham A. Billings and wife Candace of Collinsville, TX, and Grace Billings-Nielsen and husband Keith of Santa Rosa, CA; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by his sister, Wilma Rosenblatt and husband Gary; his brother, Ruble Billings Jr. and wife Kathy; and his sister, Linda Vidales and husband Jay; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Ruble Lee and Mary Billings; his beloved wife, Cristina Munguia Billings; and his granddaughter, Angela Nicole Davis-Smith.
Don's favorite hobbies were playing baseball with his cousins and friends, fishing, working on old cars, fixing things around the house, planting gardens with his wife and watching his favorite baseball team "The Texas Rangers". He was a very humble, gentle, soft spoken man all of his life who loved being with family and close friends. "Daddy, we will miss you greatly and all of our sweet memories of you will be cherished always".
