Obituary

Donald A. Boots, 92, of Denton, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Pine Tree Ranch Assisted Living in Paris, Texas.  Don was born September 7, 1924 in Wampum, Pennsylvania to Clarence and Geraldine Boots.  He married Winifred Currie on May 28, 1946 in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, August 8, at DeBerry Funeral Directors.  The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Denton Bible Church.  The family will also receive friends from 9:15 to 9:45 am prior to the service.  Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Don joined the United States Marine Corps in December, 1942.  He earned Expert medals on the rifle and pistol range and his assigned weapon was the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR).  He served in Company A, 4 th Pioneer Battalion, 4 th Marine Division.  He made all four combat invasions with the 4 th Marines and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for action on Saipan.  During the invasion of Iwo Jima, he witnessed the now famous flag raising.  The effects of his service to his country had a direct bearing on every aspect of his life from the time the war ended until his passing.

Don was a fourth generation carpenter and master woodworker.  He owned Boots Construction in Pennsylvania and started it in Denton when he brought his wife and two boys to Texas in 1963.  His love of trim carpentry, remodeling and home building flourished through his hard work.

Besides his family, the most important aspect of Don's life was his tremendous Christian faith.  He was active in many churches throughout his life, Gideons International and the Denton County Jail Ministry.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Winifred, and a sister, Betty Koch.  He is survived by sons Dennis Boots and wife Marilyn of Denton and Dick Boots and wife JoAnn of Paris; grandchildren David Boots and wife Andrea of Denton, Mark Boots and wife Dianne of Paris, Kathryn Boots Porter of Denton, and Andy Boots and wife Michelle of Jonesboro, Arkansas; great-grandchildren Abbie, Maddie and Ellie Boots of Denton and Andrew Boots of Jonesboro; a sister Eileen Shearer of Wampum, Pennsylvania and a brother Clarence Boots of Mount Jackson, Pennsylvania.

Serving as pallbearers will be David, Mark, Andy and Jim Boots, Joe Pickrel, Lloyd Campbell and Sam Brooks.  Honorary pallbearers are Bob Hutsell, Bob Norton and Jack Manes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International to distribute Bibles to help transform lives through the word of God.
