Obituary

Donald Dee (Duck) Webb died peacefully at his home in
Denton, TX, on January 14, 2018. He was born on October
22, 1922, on the family farm in Kaufman, TX, later recognized
for its historic importance through the Family Land Heritage
Program. Beginning with his parents, Clarence Haggard
(Dock) Webb and Ida (Hartness) Webb, this land has been
continually occupied by Mr. Webb's family for over 100 years.

Just out of high school, Mr. Webb worked as a parachute
stringer, packing parachutes at the local airport and taking
an interest in aviation. As a part of the Greatest Generation,
Duck Webb was later commissioned as a second lieutenant
in the Army Air Forces at Douglas, AZ, on May 23, 1944. He
flew out of both Rivenhall, England, and after D-Day, St. Charles,
France, surviving a total of 45 missions over France and Germany.
He flew the B-26 Maurader, a medium bomber. After attaining the
rank of first lieutenant at the end of World War ll, he served twenty
years in the Air Force Reserves, leaving at the rank of lieutenant
colonel.

Duck Webb married Zan Chappell on August 18, 1945. In 1947
they moved to Denton to start Webb Auto Parts, an
independent wholesale supply company that he was dedicated
to for seventy years. Duck completed his last delivery the day
before he died, speculating that it might be a good time to retire.

The Webbs were devoted collectors of Flow Blue China, amassing
one of the finest and varied collections in the country. As well as being a
member of the Flow Blue Club, Mr. Webb was "adopted" by Doy
Knightstep and the late James Knightstep, forming the Flow Blue
Brothers. They became the premier distributors of this china, traveling
the country to buy and sell for twenty years.

Duck Webb was preceded in death by:  parents, Clarence and Ida Webb;
his wife of 71 years, Zan Webb;  brother-in-law, A.J. Chappell; sisters-
in-law, Marcelle Holon and Jane (Tommy) Sharp; and cousin, Helen Benson.
