Donald (Don) Henley, 77, of Denton passed away on March 31, 2019. He was born on December 30, 1941 in Gladewater, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Elizabeth (Roberts) Henley, first wife Susan, and brothers, Mick and Billy Henley.
He graduated from Gladewater High School and the University of North Texas. He went on to earn his Doctorate degree in Biology from the University of North Texas. Don held several titles as a research scientist, consultant, and professor, with expertise in the environmental sciences. He was published many times, helping author and co-author over 40 scientific and professional reports.
Don had an entrepreneurial spirit. He was the owner and president of 3 environmental services companies, including 2 that he also founded: Reclamation Systems, Inc. and Effluent Treatment Services, Inc. He was also one of the founders of Denton's first internet service provider: Internet Global, Inc. Don held several patents as well.
In his free time, Don reveled in the simple things of life. He enjoyed reading and writing. He was an avid outdoors-man, spending great deals of time hunting and fly fishing in the mountains, not to mention the opportunities he had traveling and learning abroad.
Don married Shari Testerman Dunham on October 6, 1984 in Denton. Over their 34 years of marriage, they traveled and eventually became active members of the Denton Bible Church community.
He is survived by his wife Shari Henley; daughters Heather Holland of Johnson City, TN, Natalie Dunham of Houston, and Sharidon Henley of Austin; sons Donsan Henley of Meridian, MS and Cearan Henley of Dallas; sisters-in-law Judy Henley of Collinsville and Debra Testerman of Denton; brother-in-law Randy Testerman of Denton; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 1:00-2:00 PM at the Chapel of Denton Bible Church in Denton. Service will begin at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Denton Bible Church. Internment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for your donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation to help research a cure for this devastating illness.
