Donald L Long 74, of Denton, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016. He was born July 21, 1941 to Carl and Anna Long. Don served as a Captain in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also served as financial director for the Boy Scouts of America for 24 years, and as commander of Post 71 of the American Legion. Recently, he became a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In Virginia, he was a pastor in the Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Long, sons Carlton Long and his wife Joy from Virgina, Bryan Kirkland from Dallas, Jacob Long from McKinney, and daughter Carolyn Long from Virginia. Surviving grandchildren are Cara and Carly Long and Morgan France. There is one surviving brother, Carlton Gilbert Long, Jr. from Arrington, Virginia and sister-in-law Betsy Newcomb Long, and his nieces Tammy Long from Virginia and Paige McCormick and three great nephews from Hollywood, South Carolina.
The viewing will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors on University Dr. on Tuesday June 7 between 5 and 7 pm. Services will be held at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday June 8 at 11 AM. He will be buried at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
