Dora Elia Hernandez A.K.A. La Guera
Dora Elia Hernandez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on October 16, 1958, in Múzquiz, Mexico. Though her passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, the beautiful memories she created and the love she shared will remain forever.
Dora was a devoted wife and mother whose love was at the heart of her family. She is survived by her husband of fifty three years Luis Antonio Hernandez, and her children, Araceli Idalia Hernandez, Edu Pele Hernandez, and Crystal Rain Hernandez. Her greatest joy was her family, and she was especially proud of her grandchildren: Romario De Jesus Hernandez, Brayan Escamilla, Gema America Mendoza, Damian Alan Mendoza, Samaya Monserrat Hernandez Escamilla, Edu Sebastian Hernandez Jr., and Mia Elia Hernandez.
Dora was also a wonderful great grandmother to Kion, Sebastian, Kai, and Chuckee. She loved her grandchildren deeply and had a special way of making each of them feel loved, cared for, and part of her heart. Her love for her family was unconditional, and being a grandmother was one of the many roles she cherished dearly.
To her family, Dora was so much more than a mother and grandmother. She was a best friend, a source of strength, a partner in crime, and someone who knew how to make life a little more fun. She loved making memories with the people she loved, enjoying a good margarita, trying her luck at the casino, and, of course, keeping everyone well fed.
Dora was an amazing cook who could turn a kitchen into the place everyone wanted to be. Her food was made with love, and her tamales were legendary. In fact, she could proudly be called the family’s official “tamale dealer,” because if Dora was making tamales, you knew people were going to be lining up to get some. Her recipes, her cooking, and the memories gathered around her table will be treasured for years to come.
Dora gave her family a love that cannot be replaced. The lessons she taught, the stories she shared, the laughter she brought, the food she lovingly prepared, and the countless memories she created will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rogelio Perchez and Carolina Escamilla. Their memory remained an important part of Dora’s life and family, and she now rests peacefully with them, reunited in eternal peace.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Dora’s life at a viewing on October 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W University Dr, Denton, TX 76201. A funeral service will be held on October 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton.
Though we say goodbye to Dora, we will never say goodbye to the love she gave us. She will live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends—in every story we tell, every laugh we share, every recipe we recreate, and every tamale that reminds us of her.
Dora Elia Hernandez will be deeply loved, forever missed, and always remembered. May she rest peacefully, and may the love, laughter, and memories she gave so freely continue to surround her family for generations to come.
