Doris Ida Dyer

Doris I. Dyer, devoted teacher, beloved mother, cherished “Meme,” faithful wife, loving sister, and guiding mentor, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 6, 2026, at her home.

For more than 32 years, Doris dedicated her life to education, beginning her teaching career in Irving ISD and eventually retiring from Denton ISD. She shaped not only young minds, but hearts as well. She believed deeply in the potential of every child and approached her work with patience, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Long after the school bell rang, her lessons continued, through encouragement, kindness, and her own quiet example.

Doris attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and later earned her Master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1978, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning and to the profession she loved so dearly.

Above all, Doris was a mother. Her love for her daughter, Beth, was steadfast and selfless, the kind of love that made home a place of comfort, laughter, and unconditional support. As a wife, she was a true partner: loyal, caring, and deeply devoted to her family.

She was also a treasured sister and a mentor to many, offering wisdom freely and listening without judgment. Friends, colleagues, former students, and family alike found guidance in her words and strength in her presence.

Mrs. Dyer will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her faith in others, and the countless lives she touched simply by being herself. Her legacy lives on in the lessons she taught, the family she loved, and the many people who carry a piece of her with them.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Mack Dyer; her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Wallace, and son-in-law, Rhett, of Krum; her beloved grandchildren, Baileigh, Kamryn, Case, Justin (Sydney), and Rachel (Andrew); a bonus daughter, Carol Christine of Houston; her older sister, Carole June; her younger brother, Terry VanHooser, and his wife, Donna; and a large community of friends, former students, and loved ones who will miss her dearly. Doris is preceded in death by her younger brothers, Jim and David VanHooser.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, her daughter Beth’s birthday, a day now marked by love, remembrance, and the enduring bond between mother and child. Please join the family from 5pm - 7pm at Bill DeBerry Funeral home in Denton, TX.
