Doris Hazelene Henry of Denton, Texas, passed away from this life on December 16,2016, at the age of 86. Hazelene was born to Cleo and Mary (Morgan) Massey on December 9, 1930 in Black Oak, Arkansas.
She was married 52 years to the late James Calvin Henry, Sr. While raising their eight children, they also served as house parents at the Children's Home in Paragould. After raising her children, she enrolled in Arkansas State University, from which she graduated with a degree in social work at age 58. She worked as a social worker until retirement.
A zealous Christian all of her life, upon moving to Denton in 2011
She became a member of Singing Oaks Church of Christ. Known for
her kindness, friendliness and sense of humor, she leaves behind a
long trail of friends in all of the places she lived, including many at The Vintage Retirement Center, where she spent the past five years.
There she was known by some as "the Bible lady" because of her
wide Bible knowledge. She used her kindness and faith to encourage many prisoners through a letter writing ministry. And she approached the end of her life confident in her hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Hazelene is survived by a brother Laborn Massey of Hanover, California and a sister Mary Lou Wallace of St. Louis, Missouri; her son and daughter-in-law Calvin and Linda Henry of Aubrey, Texas; son Audie Henry of Paragould, Arkansas: son Patrick Henry of Paragould, Arkansas: daughter Cindy Rost of Paradise, California; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Peggy Henry of Hampton, Virginia; daughter and son-in law Susan and Rick Helton
of Rowlett, Texas and daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Richard Eccles of Pearland, Texas; nineteen grandchildren, thirty–three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Jenoma Henry, her sisters Eunice Alexander, Elsie Stevens and Rosetta Presley and Troy Massey.
Visitation will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 18, 2016. Services will follow at 4:00 P.M.
A service will also be held at the Seventh & Mueller Church of Christ in Paragould, Arkansas at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 21, followed by burial at the Monette Memorial Cemetery in Monette, Arkansas.
