Obituary

Doris Ann Syler
The sweet spirit of Doris Ann (Dot) Syler left us, from her home in Denton, Texas, on December 13, 2014. Dot, 79 years old, was born in Vernon, Texas on May 11, 1935, to Howard Simmonds and Ruth Ramsey Simmonds.

Dot married John Thomas Syler on February 4, 1956, in Bryan, Texas. At the conclusion of her husband's service to this country in the United States Army, the couple moved to and made their home in Denton, Texas, where she influenced and touched the lives of so many for the rest of her life.

In addition to her absolute conviction to her family, she served her Lord and Savior as a member of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ. Dot loved the Lord and was tireless in teaching the Bible to children and sharing this love with children. She followed this calling for numerous years by teaching the Bible to residents of the Denton State School. Dot's tender heart led her to serve the community through benevolent outreach and church visitations. She also served the community of Denton as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of and past officer in the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her life was truly that of a compassion for and service to others.

Left to cherish her memory and learn to live without her constant love and sweetness are her son, Michael Syler and wife Lisa, of Denton, her daughter, Rhonda Caraway and husband Billy, of Denton, and her grandson Hunter Caraway.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Syler, her father and mother, Howard and Ruth Simmonds, and her sister, Patsy Nolen.

Memorials can be made in her honor to the Singing Oaks Church of Christ Benevolence fund.

Visitation with the family will be held at DeBerry Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at Singing Oaks Church of Christ on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at 2:00 PM, with Danny Hawk officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas.
