Dorothy Jean "Dot" Thurman Cushman, 84, of Denton passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 in Denton. She was born September 29, 1929 in McKinney to Joseph E. and Gertrude Caldwell Settle. She graduated from Boyd High School in McKinney and attended NTSU. She had retired from Denton Savings Association as Vice-President. She married Bruce Cushman at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on November 1, 1985 in Denton. They became members of Denton Bible Church.

Dot and Bruce were High School Sweethearts in McKinney, Texas. They had their first date on November 3, 1945.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Cushman of Denton; daughters, Suzanne Thurman Thiles and husband Claus, Risa Thurman Madison and husband Todd; son, Charles Thurman; sisters, Billie Sue Cox and Bettie Lou Fitzhenry, and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Edward Settle.

Visitation will be Monday, October 14, 2013 from 6–8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In place of flowers, memorials may be given to Denton Bible Church.
