IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Jean
Edwards
August 29, 1925 – July 5, 2025
Dorothy "Dot" Jean Edwards, 99, passed away at the Village on the Green in Denton, on July 5, 2025. She was born on August 29, 1925, to George Reinhold Meyer and Bertha Katharine Foos in La Crosse, Kansas. Dot married the late Robert "Bob" Allen Edwards on July 10, 1944 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1999 in Galena, Missouri. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Edwards Bracey, and son, Gregory Kent Edwards, both of Denton, nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren.
Dot was the payroll chief for the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. before retiring in 1990. After retirement, she and Bob, a retired Army Major, raised Arabian horses in Chantilly, Virginia, before moving to Forsyth and then Galena, Missouri, where Bob passed away in 1999. In 2006, Dot moved to Denton to be close to her children and their families.
Dot loved sports. At Bison High in Kansas, she played baseball on the boys' team. For several years thereafter, she played in women's softball leagues as she moved with Bob to various military posts. At Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, her coach was NFL Hall of Famer, Forrest Gregg. A lifetime bowler and golfer, Dot was an avid seeker of adventure. To celebrate her 80th birthday, she went skydiving in both Missouri and Denton, and on her 90th, she rode on the world's longest over-the-water zipline in Haiti.
Dot will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
