IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Reindel
Quick
June 21, 1931 – July 16, 2022
DOROTHY QUICK, née Dorothy Ann Reindel, affectionately known as "Dot", passed away in Denton, Texas on the morning of July 16 th , 2022, approximately one month after her 91 st birthday.
The root of Dorothy's maiden name, Reindel, is an old German word meaning "hardy", a fitting descriptor for Dorothy's strength of character. Born June 21 st , 1931 in Albany, New York, Dorothy held her own as the sixth of seven children of George Reindel and Ida Reindel (née Innes). Through her girlhood on her family's farm in upstate New York, Dorothy developed a strong will, keen sense of humor, unwavering faith, and a sweet love for goats.
While still schoolchildren, "Dot" and Paul Crane Quick (1931-2014) became friends in the amateur dramatics club and began a relationship that led from childhood sweethearts to a loving and enduring marriage of 62 years. Through Paul's service in the US Air Force and his subsequent career in the titanium business, the Quicks made homes in New York, on a US military base in France, and then all across the country they lived in Ohio, Illinois, California, and Colorado, before settling down in Texas where they each lived out their final days.
A devoted Christian, Dorothy loved listening to and singing along with her beloved recordings by the Gaithers and other gospel favorites. She had made sure that all her children had music lessons and, along with Paul, brought all kinds of wonderful music into the Quick family's life, encouraging musical and theatrical endeavors in church, in school, and professionally. Over the years, she created elaborate needlepoint work, knitted blankets and other projects for her family, friends, and for overseas charitable efforts. She also loved to observe the activities of various birds and critters out her living room window. Above all, she enjoyed keeping up with the goings-on among her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, in whom she and Paul inspired passions for the importance of family, hard work, and the arts: Jennifer Giocomo (Gary), Ruth Harrell (Warren), George Quick, and Ida McManis (Scott). She was always ready with a supportive word for her grandchildren: Kristen Goodman, Sarah Goodman, Gabriella Giocomo, Jason McManis (Katharine), Kathryn Calix (Denis), and Rebecca Mwanzia (Simon). She thoroughly adored and marveled at living to see her seven great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Walter McManis, Hazel and Edison Calix, and Eloise, Olivia, and Frances Mwanzia.
For her own memorial, Dorothy wrote for her loved ones, "Now I can join the love of my life! He gave me four beautiful children, six wonderful grandchildren, and seven sweet great-grandchildren…and all of my loved ones, when you throw a pebble into the water, the rings keep spreading out and out….Jesus gives us this love for each other, a connection that is unbreakable!"
