Obituary

Douglas Palmer Hammons, born December 11, 1952, passed away at his home December 6, 2021.

Doug served Six years in the United States Army as a military police officer.

This started a long career in public safety.

Doug's law enforcement career spanned 35 years, 20 of which were with the Denton County Sheriff's office. Other agencies include Denton County Constable's precinct 2 and precinct 6, Jacksboro Texas PD, Runaway Bay Texas PD, Hickory Creek Texas PD, and the federal courthouse security force.

Doug also served the Little Elm community as a paramedic/firefighter and was the fire chief for over 10 years there. He was instrumental in bringing new apparatus and gear to the department members.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Mona Hammons.

Doug is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bettye Louise Hammons, brother Keith Hammons, sister Monica Hammons, daughters Leah Kay Bartlett, Kimberly Ann Craft, Marie Lynn Morrison, Amey Gallegos, and son William "Billy" Chappell, 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 12, 2021, at DeBerry Funeral home from 1PM to 3PM, located at 2025 W. University Dr. Denton, TX 76201. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, December 13, 2021, also at DeBerry's with interment following at Little Elm Cemetery.
