Dwayne Lee Pedigo, 68, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at his home in Plano, Texas. He was born September 26, 1947, to Jeff Lee Pedigo and Lillie Velma Ford Pedigo in Pilot Point, Texas. He married Linda Ruth Morrow on June 12, 1969 at Pilot Point First United Methodist Church.

Dwayne graduated from Pilot Point High School in 1966, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from North Texas State University in 1970. He joined the United States Army in 1971, serving in the 8th Army Band in Seoul, South Korea and the 282nd Army Band in Columbia, South Carolina. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1974. He then served as a public school teacher for many years, earning a Master of Music Education degree from North Texas State University in 1977. Following his retirement from public education in 2000, he sang with the UNT Jazz Singers and earned a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 2010. He was an Associate Professor of Music Theory and Aural Skills at Collin College in Plano.

Dwayne took great pleasure in making music and teaching others to do the same. Over the years, his gigs included high school band director, U.S. Army Musician, music theory teacher, church musician, missionary, orchestra leader, musical arranger, and mentor to countless young people. Among his musical pursuits in recent years were arranging charts for and playing trumpet with the horn bands Definitely Maybe and the Johnny Fortunato Band, as well as singing alongside his son with the vocal jazz ensemble The New Collection. He was a lifelong Christian with a passion for serving God, his family, his students, his fellow man, and his country.

Dwayne is survived by Linda, his beloved wife of 46 years, a daughter Trisha Leigh Cope and husband Steve of Pilot Point, a son Brandon Lee Pedigo and wife Angela of Plano, a sister Sandra Canuteson and husband Bob of Corinth, grandchildren Michaela Rain Cope and Harmon Maddux Cope, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 6 to 8 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. A memorial service celebrating Dwayne's life will be held Wednesday February 3, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Pilot Point, Texas. Burial will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery.
