Dwight Bernard West, 90 of Denton, Texas passed away Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born December 8, 1927 in Ballinger, Texas to Carl and Rosa West.

Dwight grew up in Baird, Texas and moved to Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Arlington Heights High School at the age of 15. He then went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry at the age of 19. Dwight started out his career at Armour's Labs and then went on to finish a life long career of 50 plus years at Bell Chemical. For most of his working career, Dwight developed formulas for many industrial products that are still used by businesses today. Soon after retirement Dwight was asked to come back and work as a salesman for Bell Chemical. He continued to work as a salesman until December 2015; he was 88.

Dwight met his wife Joyce Hays in Boyd, Texas and married on October 9, 1948. They had 2 children and were happily married for 69 years.

Dwight enjoyed crossword puzzles, square dancing, traveling with his family and friends and table tennis. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Dwight loved Friday night football and watching his son Kerry coach and was avid UT fan.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Joyce West and daughter Teresa Vicars. Also survived by grandchildren, Amanda West Sandmann and husband Eric; James Vicars and wife Catie; Charlie Vicars and wife Kate; Sarah Vicars and Hayley Vicars; and great granddaughter Nora Vicars. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rosa West, son Kerry West, daughter-in-law Diane West, son-in-law Paul Vicars, and brother Kenneth West.

Family will receive friends on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 2pm. Dr. Jeff Williams and Pastor Mark Autry will officiate. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Boyd, Texas
