Dr. Earl L. McCallon, 76, celebrated his first day in Heaven early Friday morning, August 31st. After having battled Leukemia for more than 8 months, Earl died peacefully at home in Denton, Texas, as he had wished to do.
Visitation will take place Monday evening, September 3rd from 5 – 7 p.m. at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 West University in Denton. A Memorial Service will be held at DeBerry Funeral Directors on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
Earl was born January 20, 1936, in Alco, Louisiana, then moved with his family at an early age to Beaumont, Texas. Following high school, he attended Lamar University, earning a B.S. in Geology (1957), a Masters Degree from Stephen F. Austin (1960) and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Arkansas (1965). During these years, he met and married the love of his life, D. Kaye Oosterhout, on July 2, 1960.
He was a professor at three different places of higher learning: Instructor in the College of Education (Sam Houston State); Assistant Professor, University of Arkansas, and Professor of Statistics and Education at UNT from 1965-2000.
In 1972, Earl founded Christian Faith Ministries, Inc., an organization working with missionaries around the world.
Earl is survived by his devoted wife, Kaye; two sons, John Louis of Denton, Texas and Mark Lansford and wife, Beverly, of Abilene, Texas; and daughter, Janerl Lampson and husband, Eric, of Bakersfield, California; one brother, J.A. McCallon; four sisters, Eloise Jackson, Gladys Stalsby, Willie Pearl Burns, and Billie Faye Roberts; five grand-children, Tyler, Jared, and Kaylin Lampson, and Annaleigh and Ellabeth McCallon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he enjoyed immensely. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Vervon and Norman; and one sister, Irene.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff of Ann's Haven Hospice for their compassionate assistance with Earl's care in his final days.
