Obituary

Edith Maretta "Teddy" Javens, 101, passed away peacefully at Mayberry Gardens, Denton, on January 18, 2022.

She was born July 24, 1920, in Beaver Falls, PA to Edith W. Townsend Wallace and John Wesley Wallace. On Christmas day, 1938, she and Jack Alfred Javens were married and settled in New Brighton, PA.

Born to them was a daughter, Judy Ann, and twin sons, James Alfred & Richard Wallace.  During this busy time, Edith wrote poetry that soon was published by the PA Poetry Society, and a book entitled "Tea Leaf."

With a job opportunity in 1959, the family moved to Dallas, TX. Sadly in 1963, Richard was killed in an automobile accident.  Then in 1968, she and Jack relocated to Salt Lake City.  After many hours of volunteering at a mental health clinic, and becoming their director, she enrolled in the University of Utah and then to Westminster University where she received a Master's degree in Sociology.   She was 58 yrs. old at that time.  Working at the former clinic, she created a program for elementary age children that she called "Acheever Beever" which stressed "Feeling Good About Yourself."

In 1989, she and Jack returned to Kerrville, TX where she set up a counseling office called "Jayhill Associates."  She continued this private practice until age 90, and then moved to Denton to be near family.  She had been active in AAUW, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, James Kerr and Benjamin Lyons Chapters, Highland Park and St. Paul's Methodist Churches, Sunday School teaching, garden clubs. Eastern Star, National Society of Social Workers, and Elks Lodge.  Also, with her Quaker background, she was interested in genealogy and history.

She was preceded in passing, by her parents, husband, son, and daughter-in-law, Dora Javens.  She is survived by daughter, Judy (Jack) Weir of Denton, son, James Javens of Nolanville, TX , granddaughters Lisa (Chad) Himmel of Austin, Dana (Keith) Crandall of Bartonville, Jennifer (Gary) Letts of Belton, Melissa (Brent) Waters of Nolanville, four great granddaughters, one great grandson, and one great, great granddaughter.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
