Obituary

Edward Allen Moorehead joined his Savior in Heaven on Monday, January 29, 2024.  Ed was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 3, 1932, to Dr. James Raymond Moorehead and Etta Schwan Moorehead.  Ed graduated from Columbiana High School in 1950.  Ed went on to graduate from Case Institute of Technology in 1954 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Ed married his first wife, Katherine Lay on June 12, 1956 in Mount Vernon, Ohio.  They had three children, Christina Moorehead Brandt of Coppell, Texas, Matthew David Moorehead of Little Rock, Arkansas and Russell Eric Moorehead of Austin, Texas.  After Kay's passing in 2012, Ed met and married Mary Hubble on June 5, 2015.  Ed had a great capacity for love and embraced Mary's children, William Michael Hubble, and Kelly Blakeley Hubble as his own.

Ed is survived by his wife Mary; Children, Chris (Steve), Matt (Kim), Eric, Bill (Salena), and Kelly (Sherrie); Grandchildren, Jason Brandt (Valeska Nicola), Kelley Brandt Mayberry (Matthew), Holly Brandt, Mitchell Moorehead, Amy Moorehead Counce (Reid), Landri Hubble, Bridgette Hubble, and Gavin Hubble.  Ed is also survived by his sister Ann Johnson (Don) of Columbiana, Ohio.


Ed was a past president of Victor Equipment Company in Denton, Vice-President of Pacific Lumber in San Francisco and President of Basler Electric in Highland, Illinois.  After retirement, he moved back to Denton in 1998.  After returning to Denton, Ed established a scholarship program for opera students at UNT.  He is a past chairman of the Advisory Council for the Opera Theater Program and a past member of the Community Advisory Council for the UNT College of Music.  Ed was also named an Honorary Alumnus of the University of North Texas in April of 2006.  He was also a member of Dean's Camerata and a lifetime member of the UNT President's Council.

He has served on the Boards of Directors for Denton Community Theater and the Denton Airport and served as President of the Denton Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Denton County.  He was also a past member of the board of directors of KERA-FM and North Texas Public Broadcasting; a past president and past member of Hope Inc.; a charter member of the Chief Executives Round Table in Denton; and a Ruling Elder at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton.

Ed enjoyed doing many activities with family and friends, snow skiing, golfing, sailing, deep sea fishing and riding his motorcycle.

Ed had been dealing with Parkinson's over the last three years.  During the last few months of his life, Ed was able to be at home due to the loving care and compassion given to him by Care Crew, LTD.  Ed was also comforted by Faith Presbyterian Hospice.


A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton at 1:30pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024.  Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, following the service.
