IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward Harold
Smith, Jr.
August 6, 1934 – September 5, 2024
Edward Harold Smith Jr, 90, of Grapevine, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5th, 2024.
Ed was born August 6, 1934, in Hartford, Connecticut to Edward H and Marjorie (Barnard) Smith. He grew up in Bloomfield and graduated high school from Suffield Academy. His summers were spent enjoying time at the family property on Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton, Connecticut. He joined the Navy after high school and completed his service as a Radioman Second Class. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He and Nancy were married on February 23, 1963, in Simsbury, Connecticut. They had 47 wonderful years together. He later met and married Louise on December 27, 2010, in Denton, Texas. They had 4 amazing years together.
Ed began his career at Combustion Engineering in Windsor, Connecticut. What followed was many years at multiple nuclear power plants and supporting industries that moved him and his family to Florida, Arkansas, back to Connecticut, Missouri, Washington State and finally to Arizona where he retired from Arizona Public Service in 2002. His expertise with motorized operated valves was crucial for audits by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in this field.
He enjoyed gardening, working on cars (anything with a motor), and loved to travel. He converted to Catholicism in 2004 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church in Keller, and then found a parish closer to home in Argyle, where he attended St. Mark Catholic Church. He generously served in multiple ways at St Mark for many years, and his strong faith was evident to all who knew him.
Ed is survived by his children, Janine Halverson, Gregg (Linda) Smith, Philip (Amanda) Smith, Jessie (Susan) Ephraim, Todd (Sharon) Ephraim, Erich (Delene) Ephraim, grandchildren Kevin (Grace) Halverson, Aidan Smith, Kayla (Matt) Smith, Haley Ephraim, Haden Ephraim, Braxton Ephraim, Ashley Ephraim, Caitlyn Ephraim, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan, wives Nancy Smith and Lou Ephraim Smith and aunt Virginia Barnard.
