Edwin Leo Owens, 91, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at Lake Forest Good Samaritan. Edwin was born to Elmor Kyle Owens and Elma Land Owens on July 27, 1933, in the community of Cooper Creek East of Denton at home. Edwin was the youngest son of a very large family. Edwin was a veteran and parlayed his degree from the Army to pay for UNT from the G.I. Bill. He graduated college and went to work for Texas Instruments and Union Carbide in the early days of transistors. Edwin married Vonie Jean Clearman on March 1, 1952. They were married 62 years until Vonie Jean's passing in March of 2014.
Edwin took over the crews and cabinet shop from Hank Clearman, his father-in-law, and built many homes in the Denton and Argyle area. Later Edwin and Monica, his daughter, purchased DART Janitorial Products and operated for many years. Edwin and Vonie were able to retire and travel in their motor home with yearly trips to Florida. During this period in time Ed and Vonie stayed at Lake Texoma quite a bit. Edwin was an avid golfer and member of the Denton Country Club. Later, Ed still played golf with his grandson Jeffrey Brooks until he turned almost ninety years old. Edwin was also an avid bowler for over 50 years.
Edwin married Margaret Hastings at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in December of 2015 and moved into the duplexes at Laket Forest Good Samaritan for almost 10 years. Together, they were able to travel and see Margaret's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also went to a lot of soccer games for Ed's grandson Jeffrey Brooks, who has held the position of head couch for the Girls Varsity Soccer Team at Joshua High School in Joshua, Texas for the last 20 years.
Edwin is survived by wife, Margaret Hastings, her son, Michael Hastings of Marble Falls, Texas and daughter Martha Lynn Hunt from Atlanta, Ga., with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as Margaret's siblings, Bill and Helen. Also, surviving Edwin is his daughter Monica Brooks, her husband Mike Brooks and grandson Jeffrey and his wife Kimberly Brooks.
A memorial service will be held on November 11, 2024, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church at 2:00PM.
