Elaine Kathryn Wittman, 86, of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6th, 2024, on her 66th Wedding Anniversary, blissfully wed to her husband, George. Elaine was born on August 2,1938, in Cleveland, Ohio to Steve Kohar and Helen Cwiek.
She grew up in Cleveland and graduated from West Technical High School. Her first job was as a telephone operator. She met the love of her life, George Wittman, on a blind date. They were married September 6, 1958. They moved to Lawndale and then to Lomita, and spent many wonderful years raising their three children there in sunny Southern California. Elaine was a devoted mother and grandmother who had an unshakeable devotion to family and others. She was passionate about spreading joy through figurines and collectibles, and owned her own business, "Elaine's Collectibles" for 15 years.
In the early 1990's Elaine moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to be closer to family and spend time with her future grandchildren and she became affectionately known as "Oma". Upon moving to the Denton area, Elaine began a career at Dillard's department store where she was always seen, with a smile and welcoming spirit, by all customers and friends who visited. Elaine was a very selfless individual, she was a caretaker and Christlike example for many people. She enjoyed picking up and dropping off her grandchildren at school, practices, and games. She was an excellent cook and baker who always made the finest desserts. Her infectious laugh ignited a jovial spirit for all who were lucky enough to be in her presence. In addition, Elaine was a steadfast Catholic, who with her husband George, was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Church in Denton,TX for more than 30 years. Elaine's faith is a hallmark of her life as she and George were known by most at the 11:30 mass when they sat at the same location with their family.
