Elizabeth's Funeral Service Livestream
Elizabeth Simmons Russell Floyd, beloved mother, grandmother "Ge", great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on February 25, 2025. She was born to Blake and Nancy Elizabeth Simmons, who tragically passed away during childbirth. Elizabeth was raised by Holford and Ava Russell in Denton, Texas, where she grew up roaming the Russell's Department store and Holford adored having her there.
Elizabeth graduated from Denton High School and began her college journey at the University of Oklahoma, where she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She later graduated from Southern Methodist University, laying the foundation for a life filled with purpose and dedication.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth embraced various careers, but none brought her more joy than being a mother to her children, Lisa and Russell and also her bonus kids Sheryl, David and Susan. Her final career was as the Assistant to the Provost at Texas Woman's University, a role she held with pride for over 20 years.
Retirement allowed more time for the simple pleasures of life. The first pleasure was that she threw her alarm clock in the trash, we all know what a morning person she was. She delighted in living at Robson Ranch, on what she dubbed "the most wonderful street in the world." She loved her Samba groups, her SoLo friends and sharing laughter and companionship during weekly Wine Chat — a tradition so enjoyed that her granddaughter made her a special T-shirt to wear when she attended.
Elizabeth's heart remained connected to the places she loved. She memorized every mile marker between Denton and Norman, Oklahoma, a testament to her lifelong, connection to her roots. She also gave back to her community as a member of the Denton Benefit League, always seeking ways to uplift those around her. Those who knew Elizabeth, loved Elizabeth as demonstrated by the number of visitors that came by to wish her well in her last days.
Elizabeth's warmth, wit, and unwavering love for her family and friends created a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, friendship, and joy, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Elizabeth is survived by two children. Lisa White (Keith) and their children Allison Bloss (Justin) and their children, Cameron, Mallory and Cooper Bloss and Brandon White (Maddie). Russell Floyd and his son Austin Floyd. Her brother, Phillips Simmons, her "sister"/best friend of 70+ years, Susan Conn, her sister-in-law Ginger Russell and her many nieces and nephews.
