Obituary

Elva H. Garcia, 76, passed away on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.

Elva was born March 28th, 1946 in Robstown, Texas to father, Roman Hernandez and mother, Juanita Hernandez.

At a young age Elva met her lifelong companion in Haskell, Texas, Rafel R. Garcia. They got married on July 14th, 1961. The two were inseparable. In 1962 they moved to Austin, Texas temporarily. Then shortly moved to Denton, Texas to be closer to her husband's family. Once settled in Denton, they became members of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. They had a total of 6 children: Francisca, Mary, Esabel, Rafel Jr., Jody, and Stephen.

Elva was a full-time housewife and later worked at The University of North Texas for 30 years and retired. She was known as being such a compassionate person and devoted worker by her colleagues.

She loved to sew and make clothes for her children and family when they were younger and as they were growing up. She enjoyed long hours of shopping and looking around the whole store at all the different things they had on display or on sale. She took pleasure in being outside planting new flowers, trees, or plants in her front or backyard with her husband Rafel. She and Rafel would go out dancing at local dance events where they lived and would dance the evening away because there was no stopping with her because she loved to dance. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She enjoyed putting up the Christmas tree, putting all of her novelty sets out and putting up Christmas lights. Christmas time for her was so special because that meant having all of her family and friends in her home. She took pleasure in always making a big meal for her family any time she had the chance. She had a passion for learning how to bake tasty cakes and to decorate them beautifully. She always made one for a child or a grandchild's birthday. Other hobbies of hers included making new friends and getting to know people. She welcomed everyone into her home and made sure they felt at home. She was always the perfect host. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Rafel R. Garcia residing in Denton, TX; her daughter, Francisca Garcia- Jones of Corinth, TX; her daughter, Mary Jane, and husband Mark Moore of Sanger; her son Rafel Jr. and wife, Tori Garcia of Rhome, TX; her son, Jody Garcia of Denton, TX; and her son, Stephen Garcia of Denton, TX; and 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father, Roman Hernandez and mother, Juanita Hernandez; sister Antonia Mungia and brothers, Ernesto, Juan, and Roman Jr. Hernandez; and her daughter Esabel Garcia.

Elva will be remembered dearly for being a very strong, prideful, loving, accepting, and forgiving woman.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 13th from 5-6pm, and the Rosary will be said at 6:00pm in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas, on Dec. 14th at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.

My grandpa Rafel R. Garcia appreciates all of the condolences and prayers from the family and friends of my grandmother.
