Dr. Eugene (Gene) F. Williams, Minister, Historian, Author, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Mentor and friend to so many who read this, went to be with his Savior and Lord on Christmas Day.
Those who knew Gene Williams knows that Christmas was his favorite day, not only for the birth of our Savior but because he had been Santa Claus for some 73 years.
Gene Williams was born April 22, 1919 in Fayette City, PA and attended Johnson Bible College in Tennessee and received his B.A. he also received his Masters Degree from Hardin Simmons in Abilene, Texas, a PHD from Texas Christian College in Fort Worth, Texas.
He served his country for twenty-one and a half years in the United States Air Force as a Lt. Col. and Chaplain and was stationed in the Philippines, Guam, North Africa, Turkey, Greece, Thule, Greenland, Georgia, Louisiana, New Mexico and finally retiring at Dyess Air force Based in Abilene, Texas in 1966.
Gene had preached in Bethesda, Chestnut Level and Centerville, Ohio; Bridgeport, Michigan; Eastland, Westin, Celina and Anna, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denton, Texas and was a member of Searchers Class which he dearly loved.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Williams, Mother, Della Williams, Sister Cheerful Barker, Brothers, Jim and Tom Williams and daughter in law, Andrea Williams.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Martha McCormick Williams, Daughter, Gretchen Arrant, his son, Jim (Beverly) ; grandchildren, Gene Arrant, Gina Mitchel (Kevin), Glynis Smith and Husband Jimmy, Leigh Williams Vincent and Husband Troy, and Stephanie Williams Johnson and Husband Charles. Ten great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him greatly.
The family will receive friends at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 3-5 PM.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Denton, Texas at 11:00 AM. A private committal services will be held at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Denton Community Food Center or Our Daily Bread at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Denton, Texas.
