IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugenia "Genia"
Clare Mitchell
October 18, 1932 – September 13, 2023
Eugenia "Genia" Clare Mitchell, 90, of Denton, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Denton, Texas, surrounded by her loving husband George and her children. Genia was born on October 18, 1932, in Dallas, Texas to Thomas Andrew Tumlinson, Jr. and Aletha Lucille (Bridges) Tumlinson.
George and Genia met in an adult Sunday School class at Tyler Street Methodist Church in Dallas. They were married not long after that first meeting and soon started a family. In 1968, they moved to Denton, where they had the last of their four children. Genia was a lifelong learner and graduated from Texas Woman's University with her BA in History at the age of 65. She loved nature and gardening, and she loved music and art, especially when created by her family. She always wanted to be busy, and contributing, which led her to start her own lawn care business after her children were grown, enjoying the chance to care for the lawns of her elderly neighbors. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Genia was a beautiful soul who loved her family well and fully. She was a loving wife and mother. Above all she was a caregiver at heart. She loved each of her children, grandchildren, children by marriage, and her nephews with generosity. She was slow to anger, patient, and tolerant. She sang beautifully, loved to laugh, and was always kind.
She is survived by her husband, George Dampier Mitchell, III of Denton; son, Danny Mitchell of Flower Mound, Texas; daughters, Amy Mitchell, of Oakland, California, Andrea Wallace and husband Mark of Marion, Illinois, Kathleen Davis and husband Johnny of Denton; and grandchildren, Emily, Liam, Claire, Eli, Isaac, and Owen.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2023 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
