Obituary

Rev. Frank Hodson, retired Presbyterian minister, passed away December 16, 2016 in Denton Texas. Frank the son of George and Leona (Mable Allison) Hodson was born in Buffalo, Kansas, Jan 29, 1925.

During his early childhood the family moved to Altus, Oklahoma. Frank developed an interest in music and began to play the trombone in the 3 rd grade. He soon demonstrated the choice of instruments was a good one. In subsequent years, he played with the school band and the orchestra. He frequently played solos. During his junior and senior years of high school, he played with a local dance orchestra which performed weekly for WWII personal stationed at Altus Air Force base.

Following high school graduation in 1943, he served with the US Airforce until 1946. Thirteen months were spent in the Philippines on Luzon Island, where he continued to serve with a military band.

Returning to civilian life, he attended the University of Oklahoma studying to be a Chemical Engineer. He switched to Oklahoma City University after responding to the call to ministry. There along with his education, he was blessed by finding and marrying Lora Leugemors in 1951.

The young couple would start their married life in Chicago, where Frank prepared for his ministry at McCormick Theological Seminary. Frank supported his schooling and family by serving as student pastor at a rural church in Buffalo Hart, Illinois, which is near Springfield. He commuted 400 miles each weekend except for summers which he devoted full time service to the church. During the four years of seminary, their sons Kenneth and John were born.

Following graduation in June 1956 with a Master's Degree, the family moved to Hominy, Oklahoma. Frank served as an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church USA. Other places of service would be at Omaha Nebraska, Houston Texas, Carthage Missouri, Chanute Kansas, and Yates Center Kansas. Following retirement, interim pastorates were at Cherryvale Kansas, Iola Kansas and again at Chanute.

Frank was best known for his preaching ability. Careful preparation and devotion were evident in his sermons.

Frank and Lora moved to Denton, Texas in January 2012 to be near their son Ken and daughter-in-law Jan

Surviving members of the family his wife Lora of Denton and Ken and Jan Hodson of Valley View, Texas. Son John preceded him in death in February, 2010.

A memorial service will be held at Dogwood Estates, 2820 Windriver Lane, Denton Texas 76210, January 4, 2017, at 2:00 pm. Interment will be a private service held at the Yates Center Cemetery, Yates Center KS. Memorials may go to St. Andrew Presbyterian, 300 W. Oak, Denton, Texas, 76201
