Fred F. Garcia Jr., 77 of Denton, passed away at home on Saturday, August 23, 2025. He was born in Dallas to Fred F. and Lupe Malina Garcia on January 13, 1948 and is the oldest boy of five siblings.
He attended school at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas where he met the love of his life, Mary Bennett Garcia. They were married on June 14, 1969 and after settling in Denton, Texas they became active members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and raised both of their sons there.
Fred proudly served in the US Marine Corps from March 22, 1968 to March 21, 1972 as a Sergeant.
Fred completed his Bachelor's Degree from University of North Texas in fine arts and was an educator for Denton ISD as a special education teacher. He later received his master's degree from Texas Woman's University in 2001 in administration where he worked as an assistant principal for Denton High School and later retired from the district.
In his spare time, Fred enjoyed gardening, cooking and painting. He was a consummate learner and was always reading or taking classes to learn more about his passions. He grew huge gardens and constantly experimented with different recipes. His friends and family were frequent recipients of extra vegetables, flowers and dishes. His painting, sketches and artwork started at an early age and his notebook paintings and color swatches are everywhere in his studio. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, teacher and friend. He gave freely to others and never met a stranger. He will be missed.
