Mr. Fred Ervin Kennedy,82, of Ponder, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in Denton, Texas. He was born in Thoreau, New Mexico on February 16, 1938 to Jewel Hinds and Virgil Kennedy.
Fred Kennedy joined the Marine Corps. In 1956 where he served six years, four as active and two in the reserves, before finishing his duty in 1962. Between 1962 and 1969, he had multiple jobs before starting work with Marek Brothers Co. He started working as a sheet-rock installer and over the years worked his way up the ladder. He helped with the construction of multiple buildings including the Kipp Aquarium in Houston TX, all the way to apartment buildings in Connecticut. In 2002 Fred retired from Marek Brothers as a lead superintendent. After his retirement, he started his own small engine repair business where people from all over brought him their small engine machines for him to work on. He continued this up until his full retirement in February of 2020. He was a man with many talents, interests, and hobbies. He was a well-known musician who has not only played on the radio many times, but also played on huge stages such as the Big D Jamboree in Dallas Tx. Alongside the guitar, he also played the mandolin, fiddle, and the harmonica, while also singing in his family's music group. Alongside his love for music, Fred also enjoyed wood working in his shop. He made everything from bird houses and wells to very integrate pictures on his scroll saw. But what he enjoyed most was the lake and road trips with his wife Marsha. They would go on the road with their camper for weeks as a time, enjoying the scenery and fishing wherever they could. Fred Kennedy lived a full life with very little to no regrets. He was loved by all and will be remembered in everyone's hearts and memories always.
He is survived by Marsha Kennedy - wife, of Ponder, Troy Kennedy - son, and his wife Denise Kennedy, of Ponder, Danny Kennedy - son, and his wife, Monice Kennedy, of Houston, Paul Kennedy - brother, of Amarillo, Loren Kennedy - brother, of Farmersville, Elvin Kennedy - brother, of Pittsburg, Tx. Johnny Kennedy - brother, of Hobbs, NM., Lorretta Williams - sister, of Dexter, NM., Louise Griffin - sister, of Roswell, NM, Dora Lard - sister, of Lake Arthur, NM, Gayle Ferguson - sister, of Dexter, NM, Adam Kennedy – grandson and his wife Elizabeth Kennedy of ponder Tx, Sarah Kennedy – granddaughter, and her fiancé Isaiah Sharp, of Krum TX. Jeremy Kennedy – grandson, of Victorville CA. Kaitlin and Paige Kennedy – granddaughters of Houston Tx. Jude Kennedy – great grandson, of Ponder Tx. Melodi Sharp – great granddaughter, of Krum Tx.
Fred is preceded in death by Virgil Kennedy (Father), Jewel Hinds (Mother), Viola Williams (Sister), Shirley Kennedy (Sister), Ernest Kennedy (Brother), Fern Kennedy (Sister), Laverne Kennedy (half-brother).
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors. Graveside Service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 PM, October 3, 2020 at Forrest Park Lawndale Cemetery, in Houston, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Denton at a later date.
