Gene Ray Green

With deep love and sorrow, we honor the life of Gene R. Green, a devoted husband, father, Paw Paw, loyal friend, and respected retired Lieutenant of the City of Denton Police Department. Surrounded by the love of his family, Gene passed peacefully at Eagle Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center on August 24, 2026. He was born on April 11, 1938, in Aubrey, Texas, to Allen C. Green and Fay Rene Beck Green.

Above all else, Gene cherished his family. He shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Katie Mulgrew Green, creating a home filled with love, laughter, boating, skiing and lasting memories. He leaves behind his children, Carrie (Steve) Smith, De De (Danny) Bowman, and Lonnie (Vicky) Green.

Gene was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Randy Paul (Jody) Hampton, Lance (Jodi) Howard, Jessi (Ricky) Whitfield, Colt (Breanna) Davis, Logan (J Cody) Ahrend, Zachary (Taylor) Green, and Travin (Jean) Smith. He was also blessed with fourteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his sister, Juanell Green of Pilot Point, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who loved him deeply.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Claudine Poucher.

Gene dedicated 30 years of service to the City of Denton Police Department, building a career defined by integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to protecting others. Throughout Denton County, he was known for his kindness, reliability, and unmistakable sense of humor. Gene never met a stranger and genuinely enjoyed connecting with people. His warm smile, compassionate heart, and welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on all those fortunate enough to know him.

A faithful Christian, Gene served as a Deacon at First Rock Fellowship Church (formerly First Baptist Church) in Aubrey, Texas. His faith was the foundation of his life and guided him in every aspect of the way he lived, serving others with humility, generosity, and love.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers and med techs at Eagle Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Denton for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided Gene during the final years of his life. A special thank-you is also extended to Katie Cotton of Dallas Hospice for her care and for keeping Gene peaceful until his last breath.

Gene will be remembered for his laughter, warmth, strength, unwavering faith, and his remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved.

A visitation and viewing will be held on September 4, 2026, 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. A funeral service will be held on September 5, 2026, 10:00 am, at First Rock Fellowship Church, 201 N. Cherry Street, Aubrey, Texas, officiated by Pastor Chris Walden.

Gene will be laid to rest at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Lance Howard, Colt Davis, Ricky Whitfield, Orlando Hinohosa, Ida Leonard Williams, and Troy Nivens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UTSW Alzheimer's Research Program.
