Obituary

George Taylor Boyd, age 77 of Denton, Texas, passed away at his home on November 18, 2014, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 4:30pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Drive in Denton, TX, with Rev. Ed Gatlin of New Life First Baptist Church of Krum, TX officiating.

George was born March 26, 1937 in Fort Worth, TX, the 2nd of four children to Sultan John ("SJ") Boyd and Joan Elena Barton Boyd. He graduated from Krum High School and attended classes at North Texas State University as well as other organizations in preparation for his professional career. George had a successful and fulfilling career in technical and sales capacities at multiple companies including Otis Engineering, ultimately retiring in 1996 from many years of service at Valenite Corporation. George helped to co-design and engineer one of the largest diamond boring/cutting tools used in the U.S.

George is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jean Flannagan Boyd, his son Michael Boyd of Krum, TX, daughter/son-in-law Lisa and Mike Jessie of Coppell, TX; step-daughter/son-in-law Barbara and Kevin McNeely of Hickory Creek, TX, and step-daughter Marisa Gay of Albuquerque, NM; his sisters and their spouses, Nancy Boyd Murdock and Al Murdock of Denton, TX, Jonita Boyd Borchardt and Jerry Borchardt of Ponder, TX, and Betty Boyd Burns of Denton, TX, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, as well as son Marshall Don Boyd and daughter Carol Elena Boyd Mayo Walker, both children from his first marriage to Glenda Carol McKinney Jones of Krum, TX.

There was nothing George enjoyed more than being surrounded by family and friends, spending time with them enjoying the outdoors, taking vacations together or just hanging out at the house. Some of his favorite times were the many summer weekends spent at the lake water skiing with family and friends. You never went home hungry if you were around George and Jean. It is said that "watching your children's children grow up is a blessing from above." That saying fit perfectly in George's life. Paw-paw's practical jokes and fun-loving nature will be missed greatly by all, but remembered forever, by his extended family of grandchildren: Patrick and Kadi Mayo, Jacob Walker, Madeline and Sarah Jessie, Derek and Kyle Gay, Michael and Kathy Battson, Nikki Hewitt, and Jeff Henzler, as well as his great-grandchildren: Adrianna, Jasmine and Alexus Holbert, D'Asia and Da'Mya Manuel, Richard and Deanna Battson, and Liam Walker.

The family wishes to thank the many dear and precious friends who were a part of George's life and who were so supportive during his illness, the many doctors and nurses who were involved in his treatment, and all who prayed for him and the family during his illness. Your support has been greatly appreciated. Memorial donations may be directed online to the American Cancer Society or to another charity of one's choice.
