George Carroll Goen, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 2, 2024. He was born February 19, 1935, in Denton, Texas.

Carroll was preceded in death by George Carroll Goen and Esther Goen (parents); George Jefferson Goen (son); and Cynthia Goen Dale (daughter).

He is survived by Martha Goen (wife); George Carroll Goen, III, Robert Jeffrey Goen and wife, Jill, Julie Seidl (stepdaughter), and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Schuyler Dale, Tyler Dale, Jesse Dale, Austin Reid, Jordan Reid, Chandler Goen, Kyndal Goen; Loy Anne Goen (sister); extended family and a host of friends.

Carroll graduated from North Texas State University with a master's degree in finance. He taught computer programming at Northwestern State University in Louisiana, where he met Mary Frances Easley. The two were married and had four children. Carroll would later marry Martha Jordan Goen and would enjoy life together for 46 years.

Carroll served as an officer in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. From there, he would go on to teach computer science at North Texas State University. Carroll went on to start a career as a builder from there. He built numerous apartment buildings and custom homes in Denton.

Carroll was an avid reader and delighted in having lively discussions with friends and family about politics, current world events and healthy living. He also enjoyed traveling, jogging and gardening, as well as listening to the sounds of Big Band Jazz.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton, Texas.
