Georgia Mae Whittern's Obituary

Georgia Mae (Green) Whittern, 82 of Denton, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2020 surrounded by her four daughters. She was born on December 11, 1937 to James Columbus Green and Juanita Lorene (Scargall) Green of Maud, Oklahoma.

Georgia graduated from Maud High School in Oklahoma and attended Christian College for Women in Columbia, Missouri as well as the University of Oklahoma before marrying Ollie Dean Whittern on October 4, 1957.  Once married, Georgia and Ollie relocated to Dallas, Texas, eventually settling in Duncanville. While raising their family, she worked with her husband as an interior designer in their homebuilding business and contributed to the creation of hundreds of homes in their community. The couple eventually moved to Carrollton upon retirement.  Georgia relocated to Denton five years ago to be closer to her sister.

Georgia was well-known in her community and happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, family and friends.  Georgia was a consummate chef and loved nothing more than sharing her treasured recipes with her grandchildren. Georgia's love for the arts, design, philanthropy, and travel is her greatest legacy and source of inspiration to her girls as well as to her grandchildren. Georgia will be missed for her sense of style, flair, passion for politics, her love for the Sooners and for the Dallas Mavericks, and most especially for her dry wit and intellect. She was extremely proud of her four girls and continues to be surrounded by their love.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday May 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM at The Lantana Golf Center. please practice social distancing. There will be masks provided at the service.
