Gerald B. Hedges, 75, of Aubrey went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Denton. He was born December 10, 1939 in Whitesboro to Nathan and Letha Butts Hedges. He married Freda Johnson on August 25, 1962. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Aubrey, retired from K-Mart as Sporting Goods Manager, worked with the Boy Scouts for 15 years, volunteered over 30 years in nursing homes and assisted living centers.
He served proudly in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Ice Breaker Eastwind, which was the first USCG Cutter to circle the globe. He sailed in every ocean and sea except the Arctic. He made two trips to Antarctica where he was a weather specialist.
He was a caring, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He touched so many lives with his good natured, caring and loving way. He will be missed.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Freda of Aubrey; daughters, Gerri Gayle Fowler and husband Robert of Sanger, Libbi Brown of Krum; sons, Greg Hedges and wife Kathleen of Sanger and Gary Hedges of Aubrey; brothers, Carroll Hedges and wife Jean of Whitesboro, Jimmy Hedges and wife Sue of Lufkin, and Billy Hedges of Whitesboro; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Graveside service will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville with Rev. Bruce Chamberlain officiating.
