Gina Louise Wright, 63, of Denton, Texas, passed away on May 29, 2025. She was born in Hazard, Kentucky, on September 15, 1961, to Paul and Frances (Phillips) Wright.
Gina was championship athlete and award-winning video producer. She graduated from Lawrence County High School where she became the Class AA Shot Put State Champion and was inducted into the Hall of Fame, for both her basketball and track and field accomplishments. She continued her basketball career at Georgetown University, then transferred to Morehead State University where she received a bachelor's degree and later a master's degree at Memphis State University. She capped her video production career by forming her own film production company, Shot Wright Films, and was a two-time Telly award winner and a regional Emmy nominee for her documentary, music and other commercial film productions. She shared her video production insights with students as an adjunct professor at Watkins Film School and the Art Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a talented saxophonist playing in a variety of Pride and community bands over the years. She continued her athletic pursuits on the softball field and golf course and nurtured her artistic passion through photography. Gina was a kidney transplant survivor.
Gina is survived by her wife, Helen Everts, of Denton, Texas, her sister, Kathryn Wright, of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, her brother, Jerry Wright, and his wife, Jennifer, of Frankfort, Kentucky, niece, Katie Conner, nephew, Evan Wright and his wife, Chelsea, and four great nieces. Gina also leaves behind their beloved pet, Sushi.
Gina wished to be laid to rest in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Plans for a visitation at Harrod's Brothers Funeral Home in Kentucky are incomplete at this time but will be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation, Give - Polycystic kidney disease | PKD treatment research | PKD Foundation .
They wish to both thank and encourage anyone who has or will agree to be an organ donor.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
