Celebrating a Life Lived
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Glen Robert Haubold, who left us on March 28, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on July 28, 1954, in Houston, Texas, to Robert and Loretta Haubold, he made his last home in Denton, Texas. Glen was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Glen and ElizaBeth were married on July 23, 2000. Together they had lots of adventures, whether it was buying a farm, moving to New Mexico, traveling in their motor home, or spending time with family. Glen is survived by his wife, ElizaBeth Haubold; his children: sons, Patrick Haubold and his children, Wesley and William; and Kyle Haubold, his wife Stacey, and their children, Libby, Hunter, and Davis; daughters, Laura Hyden and partner, Melissa Barrow; Julia Price, her husband Nick, and their children, Seth and Lily; Stephanie Hyden and partner Cody Beeson; Amber Espindola, her husband Mario, and their children, Aiden Swogger and Lillian Espindola; Heather Viedma, her husband Jose, and their son, Jesus; brother Gary Haubold and his wife Denise. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Career and Achievements
Glen's professional journey began at Texas Christian University, where his dedication and hard work quickly earned him recognition. Throughout his career, Glen held various positions, contributing significantly to Facilities and Services. Glen's four-decade career in educational facilities management was marked by tireless service and unwavering dedication. He held key leadership roles at several institutions, including the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and New Mexico State University, where he retired as Assistant Vice President of Facilities. Following his retirement, Glen remained deeply involved in the profession through Glen Haubold Consulting and as managing partner of FM Excel, where he continued to advise and uplift others with his vast knowledge and kind spirit.
Glen's journey with APPA (now known as Leadership in Educational Facilities) began in 1982 with a preventive maintenance seminar—an experience that sparked his lifelong commitment to the organization. He was an active and passionate contributor to APPA, CAPPA (Central Region APPA), and RMA (Rocky Mountain APPA), serving in numerous committee and board roles across all three. He was also a valued member of the APPA Advisors team, and his influence extended to contributions to the Body of Knowledge, frequent authorship in Facilities Manager, and other publications, as well as countless presentations and programs.
A defining hallmark of Glen's impact was his belief in mentoring and elevating others. Through APPA's Supervisor's Toolkit and beyond, Glen helped countless professionals grow in confidence, competence, and leadership. That was just Glen—always lifting others as he humbly served the profession he loved.
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, Glen received numerous honors, including APPA's highest institutional recognition, the Award for Excellence, in addition to APPA Fellow, APPA's highest individual award. But more than any accolade, Glen will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, thoughtful guidance, and steadfast encouragement. He was a mentor and encourager to many and a friend to everyone.
In his 2023 Facilities Manager article, Lessons from My APPA Journey, Glen reflected on his career with warmth and gratitude. He reminded us that "our profession isn't just about buildings—it's about people, service, and legacy." Glen lived that legacy every day.
He retired on April 1, 2019, and started his adventures with ElizaBeth in the RV the same day, seldom staying anywhere longer than three days. Museums were usually the driving factor in a stop, along with stops for quilting shops for ElizaBeth. Many discussions were held about what was a favorite spot, and that was Colorado Landing in LaGrange, Tx. The deer would come up to the campsite at dusk, and he loved that. He also loved anywhere in Montana –the perfect spot for fly fishing.
As we bid farewell to Glen, we find solace in the love and memories shared. His journey may have ended, but his spirit lives on in each of us. May Glen rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
A memorial will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Green Valley Historical Society, 6960 FM 2153, Aubrey, Texas, 76227.
Go rest high on that mountain. Your work on this earth is done.
