Obituary

Gloria Sarah Herrmann, 87, of Denton, Texas, died to this life on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Seasons Hospice Inpatient Unit in Denton. She was born October 4, 1924 in Flushing, New York to Caroline Sophia and William John Bernhardt. She was a graduate of Jamaica High School in New York and later worked in the home office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

Gloria was married to Herbert Herrmann on September 1, 1945 and they observed 58 happy years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2003. Herbert and Gloria were avid campers throughout the United States and Canada and traveled extensively in Europe for business and vacation. Gloria was an active Christian woman in the Episcopal Church her entire life who loved her Creator and His Son, Jesus Christ. She served several terms as an officer of the Episcopal Church Women, in her parish churches in New York, Texas, Ohio and Florida. A longtime adult leader in the Girl Scouts of America who enjoyed working with girls in their advancement and especially liked taking them camping. Gloria enjoyed sewing and cooking and had a Christ-like sacrificial love for her family.

Gloria is survived by her three children: a daughter, Linda Turner of Denton and two sons, Father H.W. Herrmann, SSC and his wife Ginger of Denton and Alan Herrmann and his wife Christine of Galena, Ohio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; David Turner and his wife Crystal of Sherman, Texas; Kenneth Turner and his wife Shelia of Waco, Texas; Kimberly Goff of Denton, Texas; Jamie Miller and her husband Benjamin of Leander, Texas; Meredith Cade and her husband John of Murfreesboro, TN; and Ryan Herrmann and Amanda Herrmann of Galena, Ohio; nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

A Requiem Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Saint David of Wales, 623 Ector Street in Denton, TX by Bishop K.L. Ackerman, SSC, Canon H.W. Herrmann, SSC and Canon Edward Monk, SSC at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012. A graveside liturgy will take place later in Flushing, New York.
