IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Granville Leon
Sandefur
June 13, 1940 – May 11, 2025
Granville Leon Sandefur was the son of the late Granville Walter Sandefur and Mitchie Katherine Malone and was born on June 13, 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma. A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, he entered into eternity on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the age of 84.
Leon grew up in Duncan and graduated from Duncan High School in 1958. He later attended Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, Texas where he met Treva Ann Richey. They were married at Central Baptist Church in Bowie, Texas on August 6, 1966.
Leon lost his wife Treva on July 8, 2024. They were married for nearly 58 years. Leon is survived by his brother, Tony Sandefur and wife Chris of Austin, Texas and his two children, Cheryl Wicker and husband Jim Wicker of Prosper, Texas and Kelley Sandefur of Denton, Texas. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Lauryn Armor, Drew Wicker, Brooke Wicker, Hailee Samford, and Skyler Samford.
Leon served in the U.S. Navy, enlisting February 20, 1961 as a Lithographer. Following his military service, Leon began his career at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas and then transitioned to the U.S. Postal Service in Denton, Texas where he worked for more than 30 years. He loved to work and valued providing for his family. In his "retirement" he continued to work as a security guard at the North Central Texas College in Denton County until retiring in 2023 to help care for his wife Treva.
Leon loved Jesus and loved to study and teach scripture, especially at Central Baptist Church in Denton, Texas where he and Treva attended. He wanted people to know Jesus.
Leon lived a long life, and lived his final days with Cheryl, Kelley and his grandchildren close by his side.
