Harold Chester
Fisher
July 11, 1940 – May 26, 2020
The Life of Harold Chester Fisher
Harold Chester Fisher, Jr., 79, beloved husband of Charlene Marie (Oris) Fisher for 57 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 26th at 8:06 am peacefully and quietly. It only took nine days of battling with an invisible enemy to end his life. Harold was a fighter and not prone to giving up easily but his kidneys and vital organs were under attack and too damaged to recover.
On July 11, 1940 Harold was the first born child to Harold Chester Fisher, Sr. and Ruth Jane (Baulsir) Fisher (now deceased). Still living are his brother Robert E. Fisher, Sr. of St. Johnsville, NY and nephew Robert E. Fisher, Jr. of Wappingers Falls, NY.
Harold contracted Rheumatic fever at an early age which slowed his growth and affected his heart. In spite of this illness he was determined to play football like any other boy would do. In high school he excelled in the sport and was on the list for a scholarship when he had a head injury. All through his life he strived to be the best he could be and carried that through when he was hired by the IBM Corporation in Poughkeepsie, NY in February 1964. By the time he retired in 1994, he had traveled to France and Japan as the Manager of the International Import/Export Division for the IBM World Trade Corporation (subsidiary of IBM Corp.). He moved his family with his job from Poughkeepsie NY to San Jose, CA in 1975, back to East Fishkill in 1977, East Fishkill to Burlington, VT in 1980, and this final destination VT to West Lake, TX in 1988 where he retired in 1994 after 30 years of service at the age of 54.
Too young to realistically be retired, he found employment with United Aircraft in Lewisville for 15 years until they relocated to Dallas.
His greatest joys are his children, son Peter Fisher and daughter Suzanne Fisher Davis, married to Douglas Davis, and Granddaughters Bailey and Avery Davis. He loved cheering for his granddaughters and wearing their t-shirts with their name and number printed boldly on the back. He was introduced by his son-in-law Doug to the Texas A&M traditions of football and became an adopted Aggie. He would proudly wear many Aggie t-shirts that he received for Christmas and birthday gifts from the Davis clan.
In 2006 Harold found a new community of brothers and sisters when he made his first Immaculate Conception Church (ICC) Men's ACTS Retreat. Harold quickly embraced the concept of the retreat and became a facilitator for seventeen retreats for both the ICC parish and mission outreach to other parishes. When one retreat was finished he eagerly awaited for the next one to support in any way he could. The people he met through the retreats enriched his life with joyful purpose and many people he thought of as his family.
Harold joined the Knights of Columbus soon after his first retreat. He is a Fourth Degree Knight and served as Grand Knight for one year and other council positions throughout his time with the Knights. He enjoyed serving at their monthly ICC Pancake Breakfast and Friday night Fish Fry's during Lent. He loved serving as Eucharistic Minister and usher at the 8:00am Sunday mass. Although it was not his assignment, he greeted everyone he knew and even the ones he didn't know. He served his parish with all his heart.
A Requiem Mass will be scheduled at a later date due to the COVID19 restrictions on attendance.
Please continue to offer prayers for Harold and his family. Harold did volunteering at the Monsignor King Outreach Center in Denton during the winter months. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name.
God bless you and thank you for all prayers for Harold while he was in the hospital and for his family.
