IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold Ray
"Tooter" Pruett
October 10, 1929 – March 24, 2025
Harold Ray "Tooter" Pruett, 95, went to be with our Lord on March 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Tooter was born October 10, 1929 to Clarence and Jewell Pruett of Slidell, Texas. In August 1946 Tooter was baptized in a cement tank at Otto Dimitt Place by Pastor Sal Carpenter with brother Greer preaching the Sunday Service.
Tooter attended Slidell High School. After high school he enlisted into the U.S. Airforce. He was a self-employed dairy farmer for 30 years and continued as a farmer until retirement. He was one of the founders of Slidell VFD, where he served for 30 plus years. He fought to consolidate Slidell/Greenwood schools to save them from being a part of Decatur ISD. He was elected to the Slidell School board from 1961 to 1974, where he served as vice president from 1969 to 1970. In 1972 he became President of SISD.
Tooter had a strong passion for farmers he represented and fought to uphold the farmer's movement of Denton County. He was a former vice president of the Texas Farmer's Union and an active member of the American Agriculture Movement. He, with two other members (Dale Schuter and Billy Tindle), in 1977 and 1978 lead a farm strike to show their support for the farm strike in Hildago. In January and February, he and several farmers drove their tractors to Washington D.C. to support American Agriculture.
Tooter was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Jewell Pruett; his wife, Jackie L. Pruett; brother, Edwin Pruett, and his faithful horse "Bud".
Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons Rene and Danny Pruett of Slidell, Texas; daughters, Donnie Monger (Bart), Robin White (Robert) of Slidell, Texas, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Linda Bentley.
He was a beloved father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many who will miss him dearly.
